As a Jewish girl living in Israel and experiencing the war going on right now, I want to present to you a different perspective on the situation here. For me, this war came out of nowhere. On October 7, Saturday at noon, I woke up to millions of messages on WhatsApp, searches for missing people on every social network. That day I couldn't get out of bed and my head was filled with thoughts and concerns, when will it end? How did this even happen? Am I protected and safe where I am?
Little by little I was beginning to understand what was happening, realizing that terrorists infiltrated my country and as savages harmed, looted, raped and murdered
Israeli citizens, from my country! Day by day the news told us about more missing people whose bodies have been found, about more murdered people, photos and videos of abductees to Gaza were circulating on the internet.
I got a blurry and unclear picture of what was happening here.
As a Scouts instructor, I try to convey confidence to my trainees, that they will be surrounded by support and love, but how is this even possible? I decided to go out and volunteer, to organize agricultural volunteering with the companies and help farmers in their fields whose livelihoods have been affected by the situation. In
Scouts, we went out to hang signs for the return of the abducted throughout the city of Haifa and held a market where we sold goods from farmers evacuated from near
Gaza. Over time, as the war escalated, the fears and anxieties for my family, which is scattered in the south and north of the country close to the borders, grew stronger.
The news informs every day about fallen soldiers, and the hole in the heart expands and grows.
Even now the situation here is not clear and has unfortunately already become part of our routine.
The only thing I can do is to continue to volunteer and help as much as I can, and to hope for the best.
