Story 1727459109

Hi! My name is Evia and I just finish my last year of high school.

I live in Gedera, about 37 km from Gaza.

On October 7th, I wake up from sirens and we run fast to shelter room in our house. We use to sirens sometimes, but that day was not normal. The alarms keep going for many hours, and we stuck in shelter all day.

When we hear about attacks on kibbutzim and IDF bases, we start to feel very scared. A rocket fall near my school, and it feels very close to us.

First, we have to learn on Zoom, which I really not like, especial because it my last year in school. I worry I miss important things like trips and prom.

Life change a lot. We have short school days because there not enough shelter in school.

I do lot of volunteer to help. I help families of soldiers in reserve and work in fields and gardens where not enough workers. I also clean houses for Pesach for women that husbands in army. It make me feel good to help.

My mom, she do something very special. Every Friday, she make barbecue for soldiers. It very nice and make soldiers happy to have home food.

It very sad that still hostages in Gaza, and the situation is very hard.

I going to join IDF in few months, and I cant wait to help my country.

This experience show me how strong our community is and how important to be strong. I learn a lot about helping others and being together in hard times.
